Read about the meeting between BLUE4ALL and the new administration of the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area in Sardinia.
The BLUE4ALL project in Sardinia was presented by the MEDSEA team to the new administration of the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Villasimius - one of the chosen living labs. The board, which took office last June, agreed on the objectives and methods of the project aimed at marine environment conservation. There are two primary goals: firstly, the modification of the surfaces of the current "no take no entry" zones, where all human activity is prohibited - these areas are essential for protecting marine biodiversity, offering safe havens for fauna and flora; secondly, the expansion of the MPA's perimeter, incorporating marine areas of significant ecological importance that are not yet protected.
This autumn, meetings were initiated with the MPA staff to analyse the stakeholder map, namely the operators and businesses working in the protected area. Soon, a survey will be launched to select stakeholders to be involved in a participatory and collaborative process with the MPA. This process aims to redefine and potentially expand the protected area. A second survey will gather general information about the characteristics of the marine area and its management, including any tools used in decision-making processes.
These actions represent fundamental steps towards a more inclusive and sustainable management of marine resources in Sardinia, taking into account environmental needs and local communities.
